A timesheet app without GPS tracking
Muster records your hours from the buttons you press. Location is off until you switch it on, and even then it takes a position at a moment, never a trail.
Off unless you switch it on
The switch is Attach GPS to entries, in Settings › Features, and it is off when you start. No preset switches it on, and no employer or anyone in HR can switch it on for you, or require it. The switch is the consent. See Features.
With it off, everything that records hours still works: clocking in and out, the Log, overtime, nights away, the timesheet for HR and invoices. What needs a position does not appear, such as the Journey card on Today, and your home town is one you type.
Switched on, a day looks like this
A day on site, clocked in at 07:30 and out at 16:30, with GPS on:
| When | What is kept |
|---|---|
| 07:30, Clock in | One position |
| 07:30 to 16:30 | Nothing |
| 16:30, Clock out | One position |
| While the app is closed | Nothing, ever |
That is two positions for the day. A journey adds one at its start, one at each stop you say yes to and one at its end. If days you worked away from home have no stay recorded, opening Today sends the phone's position once to name the town, and it is not kept. Nothing is recorded in between, and nothing while the app is closed. See GPS.
Kept for two weeks
Positions are cleared from your entries after two weeks. A journey you save keeps its start and end, and the record of each clock-in and clock-out keeps what the phone sent, so the hours can always be checked.
Who sees it
HR sees the timesheets, with any position on an entry. Not your journeys, stays or travel: their reports show only the miles your journeys add up to. See Who sees what.
What else it does not record
No screenshots, no keystroke or app tracking, no idle timer, and no analytics or advertising trackers in the app. See What it records, and where it is kept.
