Clock in clock out app for small teams
Muster puts a clock on each person's own phone, keeps every press as it was made, and gives HR the period's hours in the timesheet's columns. No hardware.
What a small team needs from a clock
A terminal by the door suits one building. A team of engineers, drivers or site trades is never in one building: they start at a customer's gate, in a van, or on a site with no signal. What they need is a clock that is where they are, that records the moment they pressed it, and a record HR can trust without ringing round on the last day of the month.
How Muster does it
- A clock on each phone. Clock in, pause, clock out, with the job and what you were doing. Each press is kept as it was made, and a correction is kept beside it with what it said before. There is no terminal and no card.
- With no signal. A press in a plant room or a basement is recorded at the time it was pressed and sent, in order, when the phone is next in signal. See A timesheet app that works with no signal.
- Hours into the columns. The week's overtime is worked out by your agreement's rules, the same way for everyone, and each person sends the period to HR from the app. A period sent is locked; a correction after that needs a reason, which the person sees.
- The team in the console. Whoever runs Muster adds people with an invitation link, sets the pay rules for everyone, records one person's differences, and sees the organisation's timesheets. There are three roles, member, HR and admin, and nobody can hand out a role above their own. See The admin console.
- Nothing is tracked. Location is off until a person switches it on, and even then a position is taken at a moment, never a trail. See A timesheet app without GPS tracking.
Try it in the demo: clock in, clock out, and read the week. Request a demo to run it for your own team.
What a month looks like
A team of four, each clocking in on their own phone.
| Who | Does | HR sees |
|---|---|---|
| Each person | Clocks in and out each day, ticks nights away, snaps receipts | Their period's hours in each column, the nights, the receipts |
| One person, in a basement | Clocks in with no signal at 07:02 | A clock-in at 07:02, sent at 07:40 |
| HR | Opens the console on the last day | Every period sent, locked, with a fingerprint and the total in every column |
| An admin | Changes the weekly threshold | The audit log, with what it was before |
What it does not do
Muster is not payroll and not a rota. It does not plan shifts, hold leave balances or pay anybody. It records the hours and works out what the agreement says they are worth, so that payroll gets a record it can check. There is no support desk: there is the manual, with every screen.
Questions people ask
Does it need a terminal, a card or a fingerprint reader?
No. The phone each person already has is the clock. It installs to the home screen from a link and runs the same in a browser.
Can a manager see where people are?
No. HR sees hours, not travel, because presence is personal, and location is off unless the person turns it on for their own journeys.
How does a new starter get in?
HR invites them from the console with a link that works once and lapses. They make a password on their own phone, and nothing about them exists until they press the button. See Adding someone.
